Maneesha Nair is a founder and co-managing partner at Truscello Nair LLP. She obtained her LL.B. from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and completed her LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School. 

During law school, Maneesha was involved in various pro bono programs and provided free legal services for disadvantaged communities at the Ontario Court of Justice. She further articled at a top criminal defence firm in Toronto with an emphasis on Charter scrutiny and serious criminal offences. Prior to law school, Maneesha attended the University of Toronto to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociolegal Studies and was employed at the Court of Appeal for Ontario.  

Criminal Defence Focus

Maneesha’s primary focus area is the practice of criminal defence and the majority of her litigation experience involves defending individuals charged with criminal, quasi-criminal and provincial offences before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. She also has a strong interest in The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. 

The key to a strong criminal defence is strategy and preparation. As such, Maneesha focuses on examining the evidence in detail and producing a thorough analysis of the legal principles at play to determine the best course of action for her clients. She believes that every individual deserves a lawyer who is dedicated to their defence regardless of one’s class, ethnicity, culture, religion or sexual orientation. Resilient advocacy paired with passionate commitment and the ability to formulate a vigorous defence has enabled Maneesha to consistently yield the best outcomes for her clients. 

She is also able to provide legal advice in Malayalam and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Criminal Lawyer’s Association, The Advocates’ Society and the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto.
